Optimising Self-Generated Power
The sun doesn’t shine every day and it certainly doesn’t come out at night, so it is essential to realise that solar power is a fluctuating energy source. Photovoltaic systems cannot produce electricity at night. The sun may generate more energy than you can use on days when it shines, and these amounts of energy are generally not comparable to what you might consume.
Power Service Installations offers a range of battery energy storage solutions to help you capture surplus solar energy. The energy is then available on demand to use when you need it. You will also be able to use the energy you have generated more efficiently, thus increasing the proportion of self-generated power to reduce your overall cost of energy. We work with a wide variety of battery manufacturers with many varied battery solutions for different needs and applications. Whether it is a domestic wall or rack-mounted unit or a commercial or industrial containerised battery storage solution, as a specialist HV electrical contractor, we ensure that your battery system operates efficiently and effectively, we carry out the complete installation, including full HV works, CDM and civil construction.
Peak Shaving
High energy users, can benefit from off-peak energy rates by charging their battery energy storage system during the night time off-peak hours and discharging during peak hours. Savings can be substantial and can reward you with a fast return on investment. Our team specializes in renewable and co-energy projects, finding the most cost-effective and practical solution to maximize returns. Our services include design and cost planning, completing all HV works, CDM, and civil construction.
EV Charging Infrastructure
Capacity within the HV electrical infrastructure is a critical factor that directly impacts the size and number of EV recharging points that can be installed at locations. We will see exponential growth in demand as sales of electric vehicles increase and petrol and diesel-powered vehicles are phased out.
HV electrical infrastructure can be upgraded where there is sufficient capacity in the grid to meet the demand. However, our battery energy storage systems make it possible to provide power locally for both fast and rapid charging units. As a result, charging infrastructure can now be built even in locations that were previously considered unsuitable for such facilities.
Utility-Scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
Li-Ion Containerised Batteries are installed in front of the meter to support and balance the grid’s energy needs. For their owners/operators, these generate revenue in the following ways:
- Energy Arbitrage, wholesale market trading, charges at off-peak times when energy prices are low and discharges at peak times when energy prices are much higher.
- Frequency Response Ancillary Services refers to all services required by transmission service operators to maintain the integrity and stability of the grid. This includes skimming surplus energy from the grid and discharging energy when the frequency drops below 50hz.
- Capacity provision. A long-term capacity payment is typically auctioned every 5-15 years on a pay-as-you-clear basis.
- BESS is also used to store surplus energy generated by Solar Farms and Wind Turbines. The energy can then be used as needed.
- As an EPC contractor, we build these assets on behalf of developers/operators in the energy sector.
